Teaching
I regularly teach on a broad spectrum of subjects, including African history, Middle Eastern history, comparative revolutions, and the international politics of anticolonialism. I believe passionately in the perennial relevance and popularity of historical education (for evidence, I point to the fact that the popularity of my teaching at the University of British Columbia has resulted in the hiring of a number of additional tenure-track historians specialising in these areas).
I also supervise graduate study in my areas of interest. Most of my supervisees have embarked on academic careers. But I equally welcome inquiries from prospective students who wish to put their historical education to practical use in other ways (government, journalism, NGOs etc.).
